Executive Director

Suzan J. Song MD, MPH, PhD

Suzan J. Song, MD, MPH, PhD is Director of Child & Family Mental Health at Harvard’s Boston Children’s Hospital and Professor of Psychiatry at George Washington University. She has dedicated her career to serving children and families suffering in silence.

Dr. Song is also a humanitarian protection adviser for youth and families of forced migration globally with UNHCR, UNICEF, and the International Medical Corps, and technical adviser to multiple domestic refugee and survivor of torture programs, including the International Rescue Committee. Her two decades of global mental health work span Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ethiopia, KwaZulu/Natal, Haiti, Burundi, Syria/Jordan, and the DR Congo.

Dr. Song is double board-certified in adult and child/adolescent psychiatry, with training from the University of Chicago, Harvard, and Stanford. Prior to GW, she worked in the S.F. Bay Area as medical director of two community-based clinics - a foster care clinic and an immigrant/refugee health clinic. Her PhD from the University of Amsterdam focused on intergenerational stress and local ways of healing for former child soldiers and survivors of torture. Her current work focuses on youth and family resiliency and stress. She is also a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Child/Adolescent Psychiatrists, and former President of the Northern California Region of Child/Adolescent Psychiatrists. As well, she is nationally recognized as a subject matter expert in child trafficking, having advised U.S. Departments of Health & Human Services, State Dept, Dept of Defense, Dept of Justice and has testified as expert witness before the U.S. Congress.

Dr. Song is internationally recognized for her clinical, policy, and research work with youth and families of forced migration, armed conflict, and child trafficking. She has been interviewed by National Public Radio, Public Radio International, Huffington Post, New York Times, and the Intercept. Her book, Child, Adolescent & Family Refugee Mental Health: A Global Perspective, was co-edited with the senior mental health adviser of UNHCR and her book, Why We Suffer and How We Heal will be released in Feb 2026 with Penguin Random House.

Irene Lopez, PhD

Irene López, Ph.D., is a Professor of Psychology at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. She is trained as a clinical psychologist with interests in cross-cultural psychopathology. Born and raised in the Bronx, she was the first in her family to ever go to college or graduate school and these experiences have shaped her interests in gender, acculturation, socioeconomic status and trauma. At Kenyon, she teaches courses in Psychology, Women and Gender Studies, and Latino Studies, which she co-founded, and helped create the Peace Corp Prep program as well the Kenyon Teacher-Scholar Postdoctoral Science Fellowship at her institution.  

She has taught extensively abroad, first as a faculty member on Semester at Sea, and later as the Resident Director of the Kenyon in Rome Program. She regularly teaches during the summer at Franklin University Switzerland and most recently completed a Fulbright in Budapest, Hungary where she taught classes on the psychology of immigration and cross-cultural psychology to students in the Masters Program of Social Integration at Eötvös Loránd University. Committed to inclusive pedagogy, she created a website, along with a colleague, to specifically to aid faculty of color with their teaching (see), and co-created the LLC, Global Learning Opportunity Workshops (GLOW) that assists educators in global learning.  In addition to teaching, Prof. Lopez has volunteered abroad with various NGOs across the globe, including Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Jordan, and Puerto Rico, on issues related to violence and trauma.

Sean Narvasa is an established entrepreneur and technology executive delivering hi-tech solutions for startups, government, and Fortune 500 companies. After spending a little over a decade as a product manager and designer, Sean has established a track record of success in leading product development teams through high profile, transformative projects.

Sean comes from Zazzle where he led product design and strategy. Prior, he ran an independent consultancy where he headed up product development for: SaraGEO, USDA, Coca-Cola, GetMyBoat, will.i.am, Coatue Management, LiveSpark, and others. The products he has built have gone on to raise $35M in venture funding, acquire up to 500 million monthly active users, and contribute $40M+ in annual revenues.  ​Sean holds a BS in Managerial Economics from University of California, Davis and serves on the advisory board for several startups as well as Blue Startups -- a Hawaii-based startup accelerator.

Camilla Dorment, LICSW

Camilla is a private practice psychotherapist in Dupont Circle, focused primarily on treating individuals, couples, and families. She also enjoys running long-term process-oriented psychotherapy groups. She is trained in a range in trauma-informed modalities,  including Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. Before becoming a full-time private practice therapist, she worked with individuals and families in hospitals, residential facilities, and most recently, at an intensive outpatient program focused on treating substance use disorders. She received her B.A. in Psychology from Scripps College in Claremont, CA, and her M.S.W. from Catholic University in Washington D.C.
